Located near Ballindalloch in Moray, the Glenlivet Distillery is one of the oldest such establishments in Scotland and has been producing whiskies almost continuously since opening its doors in 1824. Following its brief and only hiatus in World War 2, the distillery resumed operations, taking advantage of the post-war world’s thirst for whiskies to become one of the biggest Scotch brands on the market with millions of bottles in annual sales and boasting an impressive collection of expressions all made in the Speyside-style of Scotch.
Launched in 2014 to serve as the new entry-level offering of their core range, the Glenlivet Founder's Reserve takes over from where their venerable 12-year-old bottling left off, introducing newcomers to the world of Scotch whisky. Made from 100% malted barley, each batch of this Scotch begins with the fermentation of the malt before distilling them twice in traditional copper pot stills. After this, the resulting spirit then undergoes maturation in a combination of first-fill bourbon barrels and traditional oak casks for at least 3 years.
Pale gold in color, each dram of this Scotch greets its drinker with an enticing nose of sweet orange, dates, apricot, toffee, chocolate-drenched raisins, and sweet cinnamon followed by a sweet and creamy palate consisting of apple, zesty fruits, more toffee, milk chocolate, and oak before wrapping up with a long and velvety finish of raisins and sweet barley sugar.
