Introduced in 1982, the Malibu brand is the brainchild of Tom Jago who was then working as a marketing executive for International Distillers & Vintners. Each batch of Malibu Rum begins with a selection of rums sourced from distilleries in the Caribbean which are then combined with a proprietary blend of flavoring ingredients including coconuts from Curaçao. After being carefully blended, the resulting flavored rum is then brought to proof before finally being packaged in opaque white bottles.
On the nose, this rum yields an enticing aroma of coconut husk, coconut water, and coconut meat which then continue into the palate where they are joined by faint rum-like notes of caramel and ripe fruits before culminating in a long and satisfying finish.
