Appearance: The whisky boasts a pure 18 ct gold appearance, exhibiting excellent beading and well-defined legs.
Nose: On the nose, it presents a mellow sensation with a light prickle initially. The primary aromas are full-on phenolic, combining medicinal qualities with smoky nuances, reminiscent of a birchwood bonfire. Additional notes of camphor and linseed oil emerge, accompanied by fragrant bergamot, evoking lapsang souchong tea. Maritime notes of salt crystals and dry sand provide a firm base. Adding water enhances the smokiness.
Palate: At natural strength, the texture is light and smoothly oily. The taste starts sweet and transitions to more saline and vegetal notes, drying with smoky pungency. A balance of sweetness, saltiness, and smoke is maintained. Adding water brings up the sweetness, though smoke still prevails.
Finish: The finish is long, clean, and a blend of sweet and smoky. The smoke in the aftertaste becomes more charcoal-like with water, yet the finish remains rounded and warming.
