The brainchild of Dave Phinney, The Prisoner was established as a way for him to showcase his edgy style and taste in the art of winemaking. Using the "mixed blacks" first crafted by Italian immigrants who had settled in California's Napa Valley, Phinney crafted his first expression using Zinfandel and a selection of other varietals. With his inaugural batch of 385 cases now ready for market, all he needed was a label and catching a glimpse of an etching made by one of Spain's most famous painters, Francisco de Goya, named "Little Prisoner" in his office, he finally had everything he needed to launch his new venture.
The Prisoner Wine Co. Napa Valley Red Blend is an unusual blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, Syrah, and Charbono grapes sourced from various vineyards in Napa Valley. After being harvested, the grapes are carefully pressed with the juices vinified in temperature-controlled vats. The resulting wine undergoes maturation in a combination of French and American oak barrels to be enjoyed by wine lovers the world over.
On the nose, this deep red wine yields an enticing aroma of cherry, roasted figs, dark chocolate, and clove spice, paving the way for a rich and intricate palate of ripe raspberry, boysenberry, black currant, pomegranate, vanilla, truffle, and pleasing tannins, all wrapped up by a smooth and luscious finish.
