Founded in 1875, Jack Daniel's currently stands as the biggest-selling brand of American whiskey with over 16 million cases sold in 2017 alone. Much of this success can be attributed to their legendary Old No. 7 Black Label, a Tennessee whiskey developed by Jack Daniel himself with the help of his master distiller and mentor, Nathan "Nearest" Green. Among these is the Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select, a more premium take on the Old No. 7 bottled exclusively from the finest casks aging in their warehouses. Like their beloved black label, the whiskey is distilled from a mash bill consisting of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye with the resulting spirit being mellowed by filtering it through a thick layer of maple wood charcoal and maturing it in new, charred American oak barrels. These whiskeys are then put through a selection process with those that make the cut then being bottled at a slightly higher proof using differently-designed bottles to further accentuate their premium nature.
On the nose, this bourbon conveys a welcoming aroma of cereals, corn, toffee, spice, smoke, and toasted oak, paving the way for a creamy palate of bright fruit notes, more cereals, rye spice, aniseed, nuts, and tobacco, culminating in a long and gratifying finish of citrus and cereals.
