Introduced in the mid-1980s, the Fireball brand made its debut as part of Seagram’s line of flavored schnapps after which it was released as a standalone product before being sold to the Sazerac Company in 1989. Said to have been developed by a Canadian bartender who, in an effort to recover some warmth after spending some time in an Arctic blast, decided to mix Canadian whisky with a fair bit of cinnamon thus unwittingly creating what would become one of the most popular cinnamon liqueurs in the market today.
Largely unchanged since its days as a Canadian exclusive, the Fireball Cinnamon Whisky starts its life with a base of Canadian whisky which is made from a blend of whiskies aged in ex-bourbon American oak barrels. This whisky is then infused with real cinnamon and sweeteners, to create its intense character before finally being brought to proof and bottled.
On the nose, this whisky yields an intense whiff of red hot cinnamon which then gives way to a robust palate of fresh toast, more cinnamon notes, and rich baking spices before culminating in a long and warming finish of cinnamon and a mild alcohol burn.
