Launched by actor Dan Aykroyd and artist John Alexander, Crystal Head was established with the goal of covering a gap in the market for an additive-free vodka. Using their shared interest in the legend of the crystal skulls as an inspiration, the duo carefully developed their idea eventually coming up with their unique product – an exceptionally smooth and clean premium vodka packaged in a specially-designed skull-shaped bottle. Making its market debut in 2008, the vodka quickly gained notoriety for its eye-catching aesthetics and superb taste and soon enough, drinkers were enjoying it more so for its quality than its novelty factor.
Each batch of Crystal Head Vodka begins with high-quality "peaches and cream" corn which are distilled 4 times to create an exceptionally clean spirit which is then septuple-filtered with the final 3 being through 500-million-year-old quartz crystals called Herkimer diamonds. The end result is an incredibly smooth and pure spirit which is then cut with pure Newfoundland before finally being packaged in a special skull-shaped bottle made by Milan-based glassmaker Bruni Glass.
On the nose, this vodka imparts a generous vanilla aroma supported by hints of rye, wheat, and soft spices. This paves the way for a silky and slightly sweet palate of corn, more vanilla, citrus fruits, grain, and black pepper spice before culminating in a very clean and toasty finish.
