Established in 1939, the Crown Royal brand was launched by Seagram president Samuel Bronfman as a tribute to King George VI and his wife, Queen Elizabeth, who made the very first royal visit to Canada by a reigning British monarch that very same year. Among these is the Crown Royal Black Whisky – a more robust take on their tried and tested Canadian whisky blend with a higher proof and generous helping charred wood notes. Each batch of this whisky begins with a selection of 50 distillates which have been aged in a variety of oak barrels and carefully blended to create the optimal level of smoothness and complexity, after which, the resulting whisky is then put through a brief beauty rest in heavily charred oak barrels to further enhance its flavor.
Deep copper in color, each sip of this whisky yields a powerful aroma of vanilla, sweet maple, rye spice, cinnamon, ginger, oak char, and wisps of smoke which is then immediately followed by a full-bodied bourbon-esque palate of more vanilla, caramel corn, dark fruit, butterscotch, baking spices, cookie dough, and hints of barrel char before wrapping up with a smooth and satisfying finish of more bourbon notes accented by a pleasing alcohol burn.
