Adamant that their tequilas "tasted great and didn’t burn going down", the trio took a hands-on approach, commissioning a distillery in Jalisco to craft their tequila from only the finest agaves from the region. After being advised to receive a business license to continue procuring the vast amounts of tequila they wanted, Clooney and company decided to market their custom-made tequilas to the public, eventually catching the attention of Diageo who acquired the rights to the brand for $1 billion in 2017.
Serving as their take on the quintessential aged tequila, the Casamigos Anejo Tequila has crafted from 100% blue Weber agaves which are hand-harvested before being baked for 72 hours in traditional brick ovens. The cooked agaves are then crushed to extract as much of their juices as possible to be fermented using their special yeast strain for 80 hours. These fermented juices are then distilled in copper stills to create a clean, clear spirit which is then left to mature for 14 months in ex-bourbon oak barrels where they slowly develop its distinctive flavor profile. After this aging period, the finished tequila is then tamed with pristine water before finally being bottled, ready to be enjoyed by drinkers around the world.
Once opened, this pinkish-gold tequila yields an enticing aroma of confectioners’ sugar, vanilla, citrus, leather, barrel spices, and sandalwood, paving the way for a smooth and complex palate of pineapple, sweet cinnamon, corn, cooked agave, oak, mild peppery notes, and hints of smoke, culminating in a lingering finish of cinnamon and tobacco.
