Among their more premium offerings is the Balvenie PortWood 21 Year, a single malt expression that serves as the flagship of their Port Wood series matured exclusively in well-seasoned Port barrels. Distilled from 100% malted barley, the whisky is initially aged in ex-bourbon American oak barrels before being transferred to 30-year-old Port pipes where they slowly develop its distinctively sweet and fruity flavor profile which is then tamed with pristine water prior to bottling.
On the nose, this pinkish amber Scotch yields a graceful aroma of white peach, raisins, nuts, and hints of smokiness which pave the way for a racy and velvety palate of red fruits, more raisins, sweet cherry, white grape, marzipan, honey, peat, cedarwood, and spice before wrapping up with a silky and persistent finish of nuts, cocoa, and toasty spices.
