The Oban 11 Year Old 2023 Special Release, known as "The Soul of Calypso," is a distinguished addition to Diageo's Special Releases for the year 2023. This single-malt Scotch whisky hails from the West Highlands and is notable for its unique maturation process. It has been finished in a Caribbean pot still rum casks, a first-of-its-kind finish for this expression.

The whisky is described as having a complex flavor profile. On the nose, it presents a mild and fresh aroma that is rich in distillery character, with top notes suggesting a sea breeze, seaweed, warm dunes, and a hint of iodine. These are backed by lemon citrus and enhanced by sweet-spirited tropical traces of sugar cane and mango, learned from the rum-finishing casks.

The palate is exceptionally smooth, introducing a fruity and citrus-sweet, lightly salty taste, balanced by a persistent yet never overpowering spiciness. The finish is quite short, spicy, and smoothly mouth-cooling, with a light, lingering, sweet aftertaste that becomes more profound and longer if water is added.

Bottled at 58% ABV, the Oban 11 Year Old 2023 Special Release combines the fusion of Highland and Island styles that define the distillery's character, blending in the vivid passions and colors of a rum cask finish.
