The Maker's Mark 46 Bourbon, is a more premium complement to their signature bourbon enhanced through a bespoke maturation process. After being distilled from the same mash bill consisting of 70% corn, 16% wheat, and 14% malted barley, the whiskey is then aged for roughly 6 years in new, charred American oak barrels. A few months before being bottled, especially seared French oak staves are inserted into the barrels, imparting the bourbon with its distinctive character and creating its superbly sweet and spicy flavor profile which they then tame using pure water before being bottled.
Once poured, this deep amber bourbon yields an inviting aroma of wheat, cherry, caramel, vanilla, fresh pastries, and oak. This is then followed by a creamy, soft, yet powerful palate of hot apple juice, more vanilla and caramel, chai spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, mulled wine, and rich wood notes which then culminate in a silky and subtle finish of sweet spices.
